Ahh the good old realtor headshot.

If you just took your test and are ready to start selling houses one of the first things on your list is to get a good headshot. I’m here to tell you that yes you need a good headshot and you need to hire a professional for this. Please I beg you not to use a selfie! Put your phone down now! I promise you are making a big mistake. There is nothing more unprofessional than using a selfie for a headshot. I could go on and on about this and am so sorry that I run into this all of the time. Not only should you hire a professional photographer that does headshots, I want you to know that it can be more affordable than you think.

Lets start with why you need a professional to take your realtor headshot. Well here's a few reasons: one being that your kid's friend's mom, who got a camera to take pictures of the kids playing sports, has no idea what they are doing. They know very little about lighting and editing. I know and you know that this headshot is going to be plastered on everything. Business cards, emails, websites, social media and even some put their face on benches and billboards. You are not going to want a picture that is not edited properly for this. They also are not going to be able to resize your photos for what you need. If you are getting an updated realtor headshot and planning on putting it on a billboard a professional is going to be able to provide the size of image you need, not your kids friend's mom. You also are not going to want someone who does real estate photos. I know you are thinking but hey they are professionals. They are not the right professional for the job. It's like hiring a roofer to run your electric in your home. Hire them for the first house you are going to sell. They are good at it! Although they can edit and know how to work their equipment. The equipment they have is for taking pictures of houses, not people. The lenses you use to take headshots are totally different then lenses used to make a half bath look big, and if you didn't know lenses cost a ton of money so you won't find photographers buying them unless they are going to be using them regularly. In case you are reading this and live in the St Louis area look no further you have found a professional headshot photographer! Even better if you are in the Wentzville MO or Lake St. Louis area 🙂

A great reason to have one is to boost your online presence. We all know that hopefully the millennials are going to start buying homes and they really really rely on information they find online. Ask yourself, are they going to go with the person who does not have a nice headshot or with the person that has a selfie? I sure hope you said a nice headshot. If you didn't, maybe think about your choice in real estate. I don't really mean that but you should definitely start looking into what other realtors do. There is a reason they have beautiful pictures everywhere. It's also so the buyers/sellers aren't scared when you come to the door. Crime Junky, old millennial here and I am NOT meeting anyone without knowing what they look like and totally vetting them online at an empty house. It just screams come murder me! Alrighty pricing. I do go more in depth with my pricing  with those that are in the Wentzville or Lake St Louis area. All you have to do is click the fancy top and go to “Headshots” and then “Headshot Pricing” If thats to much work I have a link at the bottom of this. So yes you can get a headshot for under $100 but I truly advise you against it. This person is going to give you a ton of crapy photos. You might be better off taking a selfie than going with this person. Don't tell anyone I said that. Typically they range anywhere from $100 to $400 and it depends on a lot of stuff. If you're in Nashville your going to pay more than if you are in Cedar Rapids Iowa for instance. What you are looking to get is also going to make a difference in price. If you are new and starting off you probably need a couple good ones to get you going. This will take care of your business card and your bio area on a website. This is going to cost you a lot less than your full blown realtor spread you see on social media. Once you get a few houses under your belt or are in need of updating your headshot then go for the bigger session where you can use it in blog’s social media posting.

When talking to your photographer make sure that they understand what you want to get out of the headshot session. If you are starting out and can not afford the hour with multiple outfits then make sure your photographer understands that. You will be surprised at how many are willing to work with you.
